Continuity through time

Impermanence is a sign of things. Everything ends eventually. Our society, a society of consumption and waste, has converted the "obsolescence factor" into the main axis of its gears.

Art today, constitutes one of the most intangible and changing goods of our cultural horizon. This not only obeys the market's omnivorous character and its insatiable appetite for novelty, but also the vertiginous growth the art world has experienced: few times in history there has been some many practitioners, intermediaries and above all, a public willing to consume this huge offer in some way.

Then, when something in our culture shows traces of continuity, of permanence, is based on a bastion of certainty and trust. Jacob Karpio Gallery has been established, thanks to its 25 year existence in what is rare in the art world: a gallery that lasts and transforms itself, in some way, in a cultural institution.

At this time, it is one of the Latin-American galleries with major International presence: its participation in events such as ART BASEL MIAMI (Miami Beach), ARMORY SHOW (New York), ARCO (Madrid), ART BRUSSELS (Belgium), FRIEZE (London), FIAC (Paris), ART CHIGAGO (Chicago), among others, are an unequivocal testimony to its relevance.

The gallery has been growing together with its artists, which it made known a decade ago. Artists like Fabian Marcaccio, Priscilla Monge, Guillermo Conte, Fernando Canovas, Daniel Scheimberg or Joaquin R. del Paso have maintained a level of international shows that have consolidated them as important Latin American artists of their generations in Latin America.

The gallery director, Jacob Karpio, has played an important role in logistically supporting their work to be exhibited in Biennales and other shows of international presence. Loan of pieces from private collections for exhibitions, the financing of catalogues or the transportation of art works, have been a fundamental part of the support the gallery have given its artists.

Currently, the gallery follows its program to support emerging artists not only in Costa Rica, but also in the rest of the American continent. Artists like the American Michele Brody , the Argentineans Florido, Cladera or the Guatemalan Darío Escobar, among others, are part of the gallery's actual "staple". This supporting attitude towards art is also extended regarding the reflection of relevant topics that surrounds the art production: the gallery organizes art talks and critiques that have been joined by the likes of renowned Latin-American personalities such as: Jesús Fuenmayor , Carlos Basualdo and Ery Camara are among the invited to these periodical reunions between the public, artists and theorists.

The gallery looks towards the future and constantly presents new proposals, like in the case of the new Latin-American pride, winner of the 49 th Venice Biennale, the Costa Rican Federico Herrero, while maintaining a commitment to the artists it has represented along the years. Is in this commitment, where its vocation for seriousness is rooted towards its friends and collectors that have supported its projects from the beginning. The continuity manifests itself and the constant support towards the artists is a guarantee of this trust pact -tacit, if you must- between Jacob Karpio and art lovers.
